About the Item
Born in 1980 in Sainte-Émelie de l’Énergie, Karine Giboulo lives and works in Montreal. Since early 2000, she has been creating work in a variety of media from paintings and works on paper to three dimensional art. Giboulo has gained particular attention for her dioramas of miniature human environments. Karine Giboulo has taken part in many group and solo exhibitions in both Canada and the United states for example in McMichael Art Collection (2013-2014), Plein sud, Longueuil (2011), the Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon (2010), 21c Museum, Louisville (2010), Musée Des Beaux-Arts de Montréal (2010- 2012), Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, Sudbury (2009). Karine Giboulo is also the 2011 laureate of the prestigious Winifred Shantz award for ceramists. In 2009, she earns second place in Impulse the Pulse New York international fair’s contest. Over the course of her career, she has benefited from various grants from the Canada Council for the Arts as well as the Conseil des arts du Québec. Her recent works, What is my name, All you can eat and Village électronique, are now part, respectively, of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection ( Kleinburg, Ontario), the Montreal Museum of Fine Art (Québec, Canada) and of the 21c Museum’s (Kentucky, USA) collections.
